Amelia House Transitions Residential Service

Amelia House opened in January 2020 as a specialist transition service for young adults transitioning from children to adult services, people who are at risk of placement breakdown or placed out of area looking for a roadmap to greater independence through positive risk-taking, person-centred planning and holding the people we support at the centre of our work.

Amelia House is a 10 bed residential service providing 24 hour care and support to the individuals who reside with us. With our caring, therapeutic and PBS informed approach, led by Registered Manager Rebecca Jackson we have seen over ten people move on into our community services houses or other less restrictive environments.

Amelia House and our community services has won two national awards at the Learning Disability and Autism Awards 2021 and 2022 and been a finalist in 2023.

We provide a steppingstone service or an assessment-based environment to understand a person’s long-term care and support needs and also work hard to provide an independent learning roadmap, building community links, educational or employment opportunities or working closely with professionals to reduce incidents of self-harm, physical aggression or property damage.

We provide full time placements, respite options, shared lives and domiciliary care and support.

Our Ethos

Amelia House helps to transition from ‘caring for’ to ‘working with’ for people we support.

We give the people we support the chance to attend regular meetings and have input on the running of the home and the recruitment of staff.

Activities at Our Young Adults Residential Service

To help engage and encourage the people we support at Amelia House, we offer a wide range of activities. We have a secure garden which provides a therapeutic outdoor environment, and we also have The Hub which is situated within our garden where individuals can access this for sensory time, to engage in activities or to experience a more low stimulus environment.

Support & Independent Living Training

Our skilled staff help the people we support to engage in activities which help promote and upskill their independent living skills.

The people we support will have a dedicated key worker and a plan developed with them and their family. Areas in which we offer support services include:
