The Glynn Living
Intensive Support Residential Care Home in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
Having undergone a large refurbishment for April 2022, The Glynn Living is a 16-bed residential care home specialising in 24-hour long term accommodation for adults who require intensive support residential care suffering a variety of long- term mental health conditions, behaviours, and complex needs. We have highly qualified staff who support our individuals and deliver our therapeutic model of support.
ABOUT US – OUR PURPOSE
We have successfully operated the Glynn Living, our award winning community mental health residential home in Wakefield which provides short term and long term residential care for working age adults leaving inpatient settings or long hospital stays.
The Glynn Living has had significant success in supporting people to move away from legal framework, take responsibility over their mental health recovery and managing risk behaviour.
Some more mature adults within out service will be supported to live fulfilling lives and achieve their life long wishes!
WHAT DO WE DO?
Here at The Glynn Living, promoting equal opportunities, dignity and respect are essential to the care provided. In order to provide support and enable individuals to live their best life, the service uses a Supported Living Model to support each individual to develop their independent living skills and achieve their goals and aspirations in a comfortable and safe environment. This offers a rehabilitation pathway for those in a secure setting looking for a safe first step back into the community.
Our service focuses on continuing practising life skills and coping strategies and developing in conjunction with a community-based MDT, staying well and relapse prevention plans. We specialise in engaging those who reside at The Glynn Living to partake in community-based activities, using public transport, education, and vocational skills. Enabling people to seek voluntary and paid employment where possible and supporting people to feel they are at the heart of their local community.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
Some of the health issues our residents could be facing include:
- Personality Disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
- Dementia
- Drug and Alcohol Misuse
- Mood Disorders
- Mental Illness
- Emotional, Social and/or Behavioural Difficulties
- People who may require intensive support and have suffered numerous placement breakdowns due to presenting with high-risk behaviours
- Bipolar Disorder
- Step down and long-term aftercare for people leaving psychiatric care who require a community placement
MY KEY MY LIFE
It is a 12-18 month programme to develop an individuals skills to successfully transition into their very own home via WDH or another housing company while supporting them with their recovery. We like to celebrate individuals’ success and achievements throughout your time at Hapton and really help you on your journey!
Since the Glynn Living has been open, we have successfully moved on more than 8 individuals from Glynn Living either into their own homes without support or within our step down community services with minimal support. We have seen over eight people within 18 months successfully transition and move on from Glynn Living, some of which have gone on to take on full time paid employment, return to education, family homes and even in one case, go on holiday to Amsterdam with support after joining the service with 2- 1 arms reach support due to risk and now successfully publishing two novels around child mental health.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER
Each bedroom at the Glynn Living includes a large double bed, wardrobe, bedside table and is furnished to a high standard, however our skilled maintenance team will decorate and tailor the environment to the wishes of the individuals accessing the room or service at any time. 13 out of 16 bedrooms have ensuites and there are three communal bathrooms spread throughout the home.
The home sits in a Wrenthorpe in Wakefield, which is local to the busy town centre and has access routes to Leeds, Pontefract via public transport and close to the motorway for access to many more places!
