About Lumley Court Care Home in Durham, Crook and Willington

Lumley Court is a purpose-built, 26-bed residential care home located within the Willington Care Village in Crook, County Durham. The home specialises in Alzheimer’s and dementia-related care. Here, we also provide short term respite care to help families and loved ones take a break from their caring roles. All of our rooms have en-suite facilities, and there is also a separate 7-bed facility for adults with learning disabilities.

We have our own dedicated chef at Lumley Court, allowing us to cater for individual needs and preferences, including specific cultural and religious dietary requirements. Our residents are offered snacks and drinks throughout the day and night; these are provided relevant to their choices and diets. Residents that require assistance will always be helped to also enjoy this facility.

Lumley Court offers car parking, Wi-Fi, is pet-friendly and provides a wide range of other services, such as hairdressing. This allows residents to feel at home and settled in their comfortable, relaxing surroundings. 

Residents can access our well-tended garden through a set of doors that open out onto a patio seating area which has raised flower beds and trellis leading to a large lawn. There is also a fenced-off area housing six hens and chicks which the residents help care for.

At Lumley Court Care Home, we have a designated activities co-ordinator who creates a full weekly activities programme that includes regular outings to local attractions, cafes and garden centres, to name just a few. Residents are accompanied by staff, a family member or friend to ensure they stay safe during day trips and outings.

We cater activities to suit the preferences and needs of individual residents so everyone can get involved if they wish. From coffee mornings and live entertainment to arts and crafts, we aim to make our schedule as varied as possible to engage and stimulate the residents.

Local amenities near Lumley Court Care Home

Lumley Court is in a prime location for exciting local amenities. We are able to take our residents out to the seaside, local shops, woodland areas and parks; beautiful Willington Park and the Spectrum Leisure Centre are just a 7-minute walk from the care home. For sports fans, the Willington football club with stands to watch the games is just a 5-minute walk and the Willington Cricket Club is a 13-minute walk from the care home.

The local high street with restaurants and shops is also just a few minutes’ walk away where family and friends can enjoy a trip with their loved ones without having to travel far.

Lumley Court has good transport links with the number 46 bus from Durham and the numbers 108 and 109 from Bishop Auckland. Both bus services stop within a two minutes’ walk from the care home. 

A trip to Durham is less than a 30-minute bus journey from the care home, where residents, staff and visitors can experience Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle, the stunning botanical garden and much more.

Visitors travelling by train are able to see their loved ones with ease as Bishop Auckland train station is just a 12-minute drive / taxi journey away from the care home.
